Libya received vaccines delivery from COVAX Facility

On 8th April 2021, Libya received 57,600 vaccines from COVAX Facility. Team Europe is the biggest contributor for COVAX Facility, aiming at insuring an equitable access to vaccination around the world.

 

In Libya, The European Union is engaged actively to support Health sector in Libya through several dedicated programme. From the beginning of the pandemic, the EU has been assisting Libyan authorities in their preparedness and response to COVID-19 by mobilizing 22 million Euros.

Team Europe has contributed with 2.2 billion Euro to COVAX Facility, including 1 billion Euro from EU budget. This amount will help secure 1.3 billion doses of vaccination for 92 low and middle-income countries by the end of 2021. Through this contribution, the European Commission and its partners will insure purchase options for future COVID-19 vaccines for all participants in the Facility. In 2020, Team Europe spent 3.2 billion Euro in support of the emergency response to humanitarian needs – more than 90% of its committed 3.5 billion Euro.

COVAX is a global initiative, co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), working in partnership with UNICEF as well as the World Bank, civil society organizations and manufacturers.
