Statement by the European Union Delegation and the Diplomatic Missions of EU Member States to Libya
The European Union Delegation and the diplomatic missions of EU Member States to Libya welcome the release of the executive summary of the Advisory Committee’s report, an important milestone in the Libyan-led, Libyan-owned and UN-facilitated political process.
At a particularly challenging moment for Libya and its people, it is vital that all stakeholders reject unilateral initiatives and demonstrate a genuine commitment to a political path that leads to a shared national vision, credible national elections, institutional unification, and long-term stability in the interests of all Libyans.
We commend the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) for the timely publication of the executive summary and urge all Libyan institutions and actors to engage constructively with the Committee’s proposals.
We reiterate our strong call on all parties to de-escalate, uphold the truce, prioritise the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and resolve differences through peaceful dialogue with the support of UNSMIL. While we recognise the need to unify security institutions under legitimate state authority and the rule of law, we firmly reject the use of force and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to accountability for violations and crimes.
The European Union and its Member States remain steadfast in their support for Libya and UNSMIL in advancing national reconciliation, institutional unity, and a transparent, inclusive dialogue anchored in Libyan ownership and consensus.
