H.E. Ambassador Daniel Aristi-Gaztelumendi was born in San Sebastian, Spain, in 1971. He studied Economics and Business Administration in Spain and France, and International Humanitarian Assistance in Spain and Sweden.

He worked for the Spanish government (in Indonesia) and for the UN (in Bolivia) before joining the European Union. With the EU, he has served in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lesotho, Botswana and in Geneva (as part of the EU Delegation to the United Nations Office at Geneva, UNOG).

He has also worked as a planner and political advisor for Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions, deployed notably in DRC and Sudan, and most recently as Deputy Head of Division for the Levant (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria) at the Middle East and North Africa Directorate of the EEAS. Most recently, he was the EU Ambassador to Burkina Faso.
