Anti-Corruption Symposium Malawi-ACSym-MW2023

As Anti-corruption Bureau-ACB commemorates 25 years of spearheading the anti-corruption fight in Malawi, the EU in Malawi organised the first ever Anti-Corruption Symposium Malawi-ACSym-MW2023 from 22 to 23 November 2023.

The symposium was held under the theme “Rethinking Anti-Corruption Approaches for Malawi 2063." ACSym-MW2023 had two workshops on the first day where heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies from 12 SADC countries  discussed the state  of anti-corruption fight in the SADC Region and heads of oversight institutions deliberated on how best  they can coordinate the Anti-Corruption Fight in Malawi.

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera joined the plenary of the symposium earlier today at BICC. Such participation by the head of state not only underscores the significance of the symposium but also shows government’s commitment to combating corruption.

EU Ambassador to Malawi, Rune Skinnebach, said the symposium has provided a platform for participants to delve into strategies to empower the public, fostering a culture where citizens actively engage in holding their leaders accountable. He said as we redirect public attention to the current state of play in the fight against corruption in Malawi, it is important to acknowledge the progress made so far. “As the EU, we hope that the symposium will provide an impetus to strengthen the collaboration between the various oversight institutions. Let us build on the momentum generated, forging stronger partnerships and working together to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.” He said
