Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme for education, training, youth and sport for 2021–2027.

The programme has a strong international dimension, which funds scholarships for students and academics from all over the world to come to study and teach in 33 European countries. The programme also finances cooperation projects between education institutions in these 33 countries and other countries worldwide.

Erasmus+ can help you come to study in Europe

Erasmus+ offers a range of opportunities for higher education students, staff and institutions from around the world.

Do you want to follow an entire degree programme?

  • You can either apply for a scholarship or enrol as a self-financing student in one of the Erasmus Mundus joint master’s programmes offered by an international consortium of higher education institutions.
  • You will study in at least two different countries and be awarded a joint or double/multiple degree at the end of your studies.
  • The EU-funded scholarship helps to cover travel, visa, installation and subsistence costs.

Apply directly to the consortium, which carries out a competitive selection procedure for scholarship places, open to candidates from all parts of the world.

Are you interested in a career in research?

Apply for a doctoral or post-doctoral fellowship or other research grants available under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions, part of the EU’s Horizon Europe framework programme for research and innovation.

Do you want to undertake studies or a traineeship in Europe that will count towards your degree back home?

  • Your own higher education institution may have cooperation agreements with European universities under Erasmus+. If so, you can apply for a grant for short-term credit mobility of 2 to 12 months (or between 5 and 30 days if part of blended mobility ([1]), allowing you to spend part of your study period (at bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate level) at a partner institution in Europe. Your academic activities at your host institution will be fully recognised and contribute to your degree once you return to your home institution. Under this agreement, your university can also receive European students.

To apply, contact your institution’s international relations office for more information.

Erasmus+ cooperation projects

Erasmus+ is not all about scholarships and mobility – have a look at our Project Results Platform for an overview of the collaboration projects – select your country in the Advanced Search function:

Some examples of the types of projects:

Capacity building projects for higher education

These projects are based on multilateral partnerships of European HE organisations on the one hand and institutions from a partner region on the other. Projects support the relevance, quality, modernisation and accessibility of higher education, to make it a driver for sustainable social and economic development.

Virtual exchanges in higher education and youth

Virtual exchanges are online people-to-people activities that promote intercultural dialogue and soft skills development between individuals from non-associated third countries and EU Member States or associated third countries.

Coming in 2022: Capacity-building for vocational education and training (VET)

This action supports multilateral partnerships of organisations active in the field of VET in European and other  countries. They aim to support the relevance, accessibility, and responsiveness of VET institutions and systems
