EU Ambassador to the African Union meets Malawi Ministry of Foreign Affairs to explore common ground

The meeting confirmed that the relationship between the EU and AU has evolved, grown and deepened over the years, reflecting the developments and progressive integration paths on both continents, and that the shifting geopolitical context will provide opportunities for even closer cooperation.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for Malawi’s sectoral ministries to share and discuss priority areas. Ambassador Javier Niño Pérez underlined the significant degree of convergence between the objectives of the partnership between the EU and Malawi bilaterally, and the partnership between the EU and the AU at continental level, especially in terms of climate change and the imperative to advance peace and security. Thus, it was an important occasion to explore opportunities for Malawi ahead of the Ministerial Meeting.
The AU-EU ministerial meeting will gather over 80 governments and the new leadership of both the African Union and the European Union. For 25 years, the AU and the EU have stood together in addressing global challenges and fostering economic growth. The ministerial meeting will serve as another important opportunity to assess progress, reaffirm the two sides’ commitments and outline a bold path forward.
