EU Ambassador visits Chichiri Prison

Ambassador Daniel Aristi visited Chichiri Prison in Blantyre to appreciate the work that EU is doing through the Chilungamo II (Access to Justice) Programme.

Through the Programme, EU is supporting the Ministry of Homeland Security and Malawi Prison Services in formulating and drafting the 2025 Prison Act regulations. EU is also working with UNICEF Malawi and Paralegal Advisory Service Institute -PASI to provide paralegal services in places of detention. Part of the work they do is to facilitate camp courts in prisons, a temporary on-site court held in prison facilities to ease case screening, identify individuals unlawfully detained, vary bail conditions, set new dates for trial and in particular cases, order the immediate release of a detainee.
