European Union Commissioner for International Partnerships to Visit Malawi

European Union’s Commissioner for International Partnerships, Ms Jutta Urpilainen, will visit Malawi from 27 to 28 October 2022.

The Commissioner will meet His Excellency President Lazarus Chakwera to re-affirm the strong ties and ever-closer partnership between the EU and Malawi, particularly in the areas of green and resilient economic transformation, democratic and economic governance and human development and social inclusion.



The Commissioner will also meet women leaders to reflect on girls’ and women social and economic empowerment. She will also meet youth representatives to discuss the EU Youth Action Plan (YAP). In addition, she will visit a School Meals Project and a Farmer Field School in Kasungu, which are activities of the sustainable agriculture and nutrition programmes,

Kulima and Afikepo, which the EU supports.



During her visit, Commissioner Urpilainen will sign six Financing Agreements with the Government of Malawi covering new programmes supporting the energy sector, green growth initiatives, democratic governance and access to justice, as well as food production and resilience of food systems.
