James Maulana, a Success Story of ASWAp SP II Banana Revival in Malawi

In total, this farmer has received from ASWAp 370 suckers out of which he has produced 1500 clean banana planting materials. From the 1500 suckers produced, he has planted 220 more on his farm to increase his acreage, shared over 200 to fellow farmers within his community on a pass on program, has 311 available to pass on to fellow farmers whenever their land is ready for planting.  He has sold 769 at MK1000 ($1.20) each.

Proud of his humble beginning, James Maulana of Zuze Village, in the area of Traditional Authority  Kaphuka in Dedza district, attributes his success to ASWAp-SPII. The Program funded by EU, USAId, Irish Aid, Flanders and  Norway through a Multi Donor Trust Fund, assisted him with banana suckers, a humidity chamber and training.

Maulana has established his own banana farm that is providing income to his household.

The area benefitted from his successes not only through the free planting material he distributed, but also through the knowledge he shared with other farmers for the construction of humidity chambers and their management.
