Malawi National Youth Summit 2026: Accelerating Progress: Reflecting on Impact, Expanding Prospects for Youth Development in Malawi

Ambassador Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi, on Thursday August 20, 2026,made closing remarks at the National Youth Summit 2026 in Lilongwe. He said the summit provided a good space to really listen to young people and encouraged the participants to go back to their various districts and communities and deliver meaningful change.

 
Ambassador Daniel Aristi also had an opportunity to tour some of the innovation stalls mounted at the Summit where he met amazing youth innovators.The inspiring entrepreneurs behind the EU-supported Zantchito Malawi, implemented by UNDP Malawi, are producing incredible results. Hearing firsthand how these growing startups are turning innovative ideas into real-world success shows the power of the EU partnership.

The Ambassador was able to hear about the creative process behind products on display such as castor oil, hot chilli sauce, honey, or hibiscus juice, and get acquainted with an ingenuous device to measure the level of moisture and temperature in grain silos that will help preventing rot and reduce thus wastage of grain stocks.

The Ambassador shared with the youth the different EU programmes that address education and job creation, both present and upcoming, where they can find support specific to their needs and ideas. He urged policy makers to keep investing, keep listening, keep partnering and keep believing in the talent, creativity and leadership of Malawi’s young people. 


More than 1,200 young people from across Malawi, including the members of the EU Youth Sounding Board, gathered for the Summit, a three-day event hosted by the National Youth Council of Malawi under the theme “Accelerating Progress: Reflecting on Impact, Expanding Prospects for Youth Development in Malawi.
