New Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency Programme to strengthen public health in Malawi

The European Union Delegation to Malawi joined a team of Swedish experts (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, and Public Health Institute of Sweden), GIZ Malawi, and the Ministry of Health - Malawi, to launch a new project: Strengthening Public Health Institutional Capacity for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Malawi (SPHIRHA).

Sweden’s SPHIRHA will run in parallel with a twin project funded by both the EU and Germany and their combined goal is to improve the capacity of the Public Health Institute of Malawi (PHIM) to translate data and evidence into policy and public health action, with a focus on improved Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights – Malawi experiences one of the highest rates of teenage pregnancies, for example.

Better data mean better policies, and better policies mean better health.

It was really good to welcome the Swedish colleagues in Lilongwe, another example of #TeamEurope in action!
