ODPOD launches 5-year strategy, EU “happy to be part of this journey”

On June 4, the Office of the Director of Public Officers’ Declarations (ODPOD) launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2031. The unveiling was presided over by Dr Justin Saidi, Chief Secretary to the Government. He was joined by the German Ambassador to Malawi, H.E. Mrs. Ute König, and the EU Ambassador to Malawi, H.E. Mr. Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi.

The 5-year strategy underpins ODPODs core purpose, which is to “ensure that Listed Public Officers declare assets, liabilities and business interests to prevent corruption and promote transparency and accountability”. It builds on five strategic pillars: (1) enhanced compliance and declarations; (2) strengthened physical verifications; (3) robust management information systems; (4) public awareness for greater accountability; and (5) institutional capacity building for effective, professional delivery.

Commending ODPOD on its strategic focus, H.E. Ambassador Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi highlighted that “By promoting transparency, and monitoring of the declarations of about fourteen thousand listed public officers, ODPOD ensures that those people entrusted with public funds act responsibly. We are happy to be part of this journey”

Through the co-funded Joint Action “Strengthening Public Financial and Economic Management (PFEM) – Tikuze Malawi”, the European Union and Germany support key public financial and anti-corruption institutions in Malawi, including ODPOD.
