EU Delegation in Kuala Lumpur Sets New Global Standard with Fourth Sustainability Certificate Achievement

The EU Delegation to Malaysia achieved a significant milestone in its sustainability journey by obtaining a fourth international certificate.

Last week, the EU Delegation in Kuala Lumpur achieved a significant milestone in its sustainability journey by obtaining a fourth international certificate, the Carbon Index (Ci) Gold Certification. Combined with our previous certifications — the Green Building Index (GBI), Fitwel, and Oceanic Standard — we are now the first EU Delegation in the world and the first office premises in Malaysia to hold all four prestigious certificates. With the addition of the Ci, we demonstrate our dedication to reducing carbon emissions and taking the lead in environmental responsibility.

The EU Delegation has included the requirements of the four certificates in its everyday work. The GBI assesses the efficiency of resources use, the Fitwel certificate stresses wellness in the workplace, whereas the Oceanic Standard encourages the adoption of sustainable operating practices.

The Delegation has taken all steps to ensure that it adheres to environmentally-friendly standards of operation. The Delegation moved to its current office in the Naza Tower, a fully green space, in 2021. In the last years, the EU Delegation has achieved a 42 % reduction in energy use against national energy standards, a 38.248 kWh decrease in energy consumption, and a 29.833 kg reduction in CO2 emissions between January and December 2023.

The Certifications are a display of the tireless work of the staff of the Delegation in complying with these practices, but also emanates the aims of the European Union’s Green Deal by implementing various practical measures in environmental sustainability.
