On 10 June 2026, the European Union and the four ESA States successfully concluded negotiations to transform their existing Economic Partnership Agreement into a modern and comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA). As the first agreement of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, the deepened EU-ESA EPA goes beyond trade in goods to include services, investment, digital trade, and sectoral cooperation. It is designed to strengthen economic ties, enhance supply chain resilience, promote industrial transformation and value addition, and support sustainable development across the participating ESA States.
This milestone marks a new chapter in the EU-ESA partnership and reflects a shared commitment to fostering inclusive economic growth, regional integration, and stronger trade and investment relations for the benefit of all partners.
