Coronavirus: Update as of 10 March

On 10 March, the Mongolian authorities confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in the country.

The Government of Mongolia has issued precautionary measures:

Travel

  • Mongolian authorities advise against travelling to the country.
  • All domestic intercity traffic has been suspended from 7 a.m. 10 March until 7 a.m. 16 March.
  • Prohibition of entry of foreign nationals who travelled to Italy, Republic of Korea, Japan and Iran 14 days prior to their planned arrival to Mongolia.
  • Suspension of all air travel to/from the Republic of Korea, Japan, Irkutsk and Ulan-Ude (Russia) until 28 March.
  • Suspension of all air travel to/from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao until 30 March.
  • Prohibition of entry to/from China and closure of all borders between China and Mongolia until further notice.

 

Public Places

  • Visitors to public places are required to wear a surgical facemask and can be subject to temperature screenings.
  • Prohibition of public gatherings, events and meetings, such as conferences, sporting events and concerts until 30 March.
  • Closure of schools, universities, higher education institutions, kindergardens and vocational training centres, cinemas and entertainment centres until 30 March.
  • Prohibition of school age children to appear in public places until 30 March.
  • Reduction of operating hours of bars and restaurants until 30 March.

 

Quarantine

  • Foreigners with symptoms and those who have been to countries with confirmed cases 14 days prior to their planned arrival to Mongolia might be subject to quarantine at a government facility on their own expense. This measure will be in place until further notice.
  • Travellers arriving from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Republic of Korea, Italy and Iran might be subject to quarantine upon arrival.
  • Travellers arriving from countries with confirmed cases of COVID-19 might be requested by the Mongolian Ministry of Health to self-quarantine for 14 days following their arrival to Mongolia.
