COVID-19: update as of 20 March
The Government of Mongolia has issued precautionary measures:
Travel
- Mongolian authorities prohibited the entry of all foreign nationals for at least a months starting 16 March.
- The prohibition of entry of all foreign nationals translates to the suspension of all commercial flights, passenger rail and auto traffic in and out of Mongolia.
- Suspension of flights to/from South Korea, Japan, Berlin, Istanbul, Moscow, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Nur-Sultan until 28 March.
- Suspension of all air travel to/from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao until 30 March.
- Suspension of international passenger train traffic until 28 March.
- Suspension of passenger transport at the Mongolian-Russian border crossing points until 31 March.
- Prohibition of entry to/from China and Russia and closure of all borders between China, Russia and Mongolia until further notice.
Public Places
- Visitors to public places are required to wear a surgical facemask and can be subject to temperature screenings.
- Shops other than grocery and household item stores will be closed until 16 March.
- Prohibition of public gatherings, events and meetings, such as conferences, sporting events and concerts until 30 March.
- Closure of schools, universities, higher education institutions, kindergardens and vocational training centres, cinemas and entertainment centres until 30 March.
- Prohibition of school age children to appear in public places until 30 March.
- Reduction of operating hours of bars and restaurants until 30 March.
Quarantine
- Foreigners with symptoms and those who have been to countries with confirmed cases might be subject to quarantine at a government facility on their own expense.
- Mongolian citizens arriving from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Republic of Korea, Italy, Iran and other countries with confirmed cases of COVID-19 might be subject to quarantine upon arrival.
