COVID-19: update as of 20 March

The Government of Mongolia has issued precautionary measures:

Travel

Mongolian authorities prohibited the entry of all foreign nationals for at least a months starting 16 March.
The prohibition of entry of all foreign nationals translates to the suspension of all commercial flights, passenger rail and auto traffic in and out of Mongolia.
Suspension of flights to/from South Korea, Japan, Berlin, Istanbul, Moscow, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Nur-Sultan until 28 March.
Suspension of all air travel to/from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao until 30 March.
Suspension of international passenger train traffic until 28 March.
Suspension of passenger transport at the Mongolian-Russian border crossing points until 31 March.
Prohibition of entry to/from China and Russia and closure of all borders between China, Russia and Mongolia until further notice.

Public Places

Visitors to public places are required to wear a surgical facemask and can be subject to temperature screenings.
Shops other than grocery and household item stores will be closed until 16 March.
Prohibition of public gatherings, events and meetings, such as conferences, sporting events and concerts until 30 March.
Closure of schools, universities, higher education institutions, kindergardens and vocational training centres, cinemas and entertainment centres until 30 March.
Prohibition of school age children to appear in public places until 30 March.
Reduction of operating hours of bars and restaurants until 30 March.

Quarantine

Foreigners with symptoms and those who have been to countries with confirmed cases might be subject to quarantine at a government facility on their own expense.
Mongolian citizens arriving from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Republic of Korea, Italy, Iran and other countries with confirmed cases of COVID-19 might be subject to quarantine upon arrival.
