The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have similar functions to those of a national Embassy.
The EU Delegation to Myanmar works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in Myanmar.
We offer
The post of Secretary (Local Agent, Group III) in the Delegation’s Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section, under a fixed-term employment contract of 1 year (in the event of recruitment from outside the organisation), with a possibility of renewal under reserve of budgetary availabilities and operational considerations.
The job will be performed in a multicultural environment, based in Yangon, with a working time of 37.5 hours per week. The team consists of 4 people and there are occasional atypical working hours.
Under this post, the new colleague will undertake tasks responding to the continuously changing needs of the Delegation. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Political, Press and Information (HoPPI) Section, providing support, expertise, and assistance in this field.
Below are the main tasks and duties currently required:
1. Administrative and operational support

Workflow management: Oversee the daily administrative operations of the PPI Section, including scheduling, meeting coordination, and agenda management for the Head of Section and Political Officer.

Correspondence: Draft and process formal documents, including Note Verbales, ensuring adherence to official diplomatic formatting, protocol, and the highest standards of discretion.

Meeting coordination: Request and organise meetings, manage invitations, track RSVPs, and handle venue logistics and briefing documentation.

Logistics and missions: Manage comprehensive travel arrangements (flights, visas, travel authorisations) and handle mission preparation and the reimbursement process in compliance with EU financial guidelines.

Procurement: Coordinate the procurement of materials and services related to EU visibility initiatives under the Press and Information (P&I) budget.

Mailing lists: Maintain professional mailing lists and manage relations with EU Member State embassies, the diplomatic community, and external stakeholders.

Functional mailbox: Manage PPI functional mailboxes, ensuring timely monitoring, screening, follow-up, and routing of incoming and outgoing correspondence.

Language support: Provide accurate translation (English/Myanmar) of letters, social media posts, statements, formal invitations, and documents as needed.

Media monitoring: Compile and distribute the daily press review in the absence of the assigned Policy Officer.

Public and cultural diplomacy: Provide support to the HoPPI, Political Officer and Local Political Officer in organizing the Delegation’s public diplomacy and cultural programming.
2. Teamwork and institutional support

Institutional coverage: Provide administrative coverage for the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Head of Delegation (HoD) during absences, ensuring the continuity of the HoD's office. Coordinate with other Delegation units to keep work moving smoothly across departments.

General support: Take on additional tasks as assigned by the Head of Section to support the changing needs of the Delegation.
The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience. There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days, public holidays, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
The expected start date will be 15/08/2026.
Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

Completed secondary education or higher secretarial college attested by a diploma.

Minimum of 4 years of experience in secretarial activities (the professional experience must be acquired after the date on which the qualification allowing access to the post was obtained.).

Minimum of 4 years working for an international organisation (Embassy, UN agency, international NGO, etc.).

Excellent command (C1 level or above) of English (written and oral). Native proficiency of Myanmar (written and oral).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with excellent typing skills in both English and Myanmar.

Right to residence and work in Myanmar.

Medical fitness to carry out the tasks assigned.
Assets

Demonstrated experience in maintaining organized document systems and familiarity with EU tools like Ares and MIPS+.

Proven capacity for organizing complex agendas and managing professional interactions.

Proven ability to work in a team with high flexibility and the capacity to deliver under pressure.

Experience in managing relations with diplomatic missions and international organizations.

Understanding of the local political and media landscape.
The Process
After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.
Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of selection may include shortlisting of candidates based on the assessment of the information provided in the cover letter and CV; practical tests and interviews. The strongest candidates will be invited to a final interview.
Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will not supply additional information or discuss the selection procedure. During the selection process, please do not contact the members of the Selection Committee, but address your questions and comments to the Delegation’s Administration.
The successful candidate will be subject to a medical check and will have to submit original copies of certificates and diplomas.

Upon receipt, the Delegation will review the matter and, where appropriate, consult Headquarters before providing a response.
