EU Film Festival Celebrates 9 Weeks of Cultural Exchange and Creativity in Namibia
Working closely with the Namibia Film Commission and the Filmmakers Association of Namibia, the festival showcased a diverse range of European and Namibian productions, strengthening collaboration between European and local filmmakers. Over the course of the festival, over 1,500 guests attended screenings, averaging 155 participants per event, with a record 241 attendees at the closing night. The special kids’ screening, which drew 145 young film enthusiasts, highlighted growing community interest in family-friendly programming and youth engagement.
A major highlight this year was the cell phone video production workshop held in Windhoek, following successful sessions in the north, south, and west of the country. The initiative trained 15 emerging Namibian filmmakers in shooting, producing, directing and editing short films using only mobile phones, a practical way to encourage accessible filmmaking and new creative voices.
The festival’s closing event featured three Namibian productions: the debut film created by the cell phone workshop participants, followed by The B2 Passage and Snare. Guests and partners celebrated another year of cinematic exchange and community building, with special thanks extended to the EU Delegation staff and Jam Events for their coordination and commitment to the festival’s success.
The EU Film Festival continues to grow as a platform for cultural dialogue, creativity and collaboration between Europe and Namibia, inspiring filmmakers and audiences alike to share their stories with the world.
