Strengthening the Capacity of Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) in Namibia to Engage in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Processes

The project aims to strengthen the role of community-based organisations (CBOs) in environmental governance, particularly in response to mining, oil, gas, and renewable energy expansion. It enhances CBOs’ ability to monitor Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes, advocate for environmental justice, and hold authorities accountable for compliance with Environmental Management Plans (EMPs). Activities include capacity building, legal support, and community-based monitoring to ensure sustainable resource management while protecting local livelihoods and biodiversity.
The project is expected to result in stronger environmental governance at the local level, with communities actively engaging in EIA processes. By the end of the project, several CBOs will have the skills and support needed to demand accountability and help protect Namibia’s ecosystems. This work lays a foundation for a future where environmental decisions are driven by informed and empowered citizens.
