David Geer takes up duty as new EU Ambassador to North Macedonia
On 21 September, the Head of the Delegation of the European Union, Ambassador David Geer, handed over his letters of credence to the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski.
Ambassador Geer said he was delighted to be in North Macedonia to represent the EU. He vowed throughout his four-year term to work with all institutions, political forces and actors and sectors of society across the country. The President and Ambassador Geer exchanged views regarding North Macedonia’s EU integration process, the progress the country has made, as well as the future reforms and challenges ahead. The Ambassador expressed the EU’s determination to support the process of positive reform in the interests of the freedoms, prosperity and security of ordinary citizens.
“Last March the Council of the EU took the historic decision to open membership negotiations with North Macedonia. This came following significant reform achievements, hard decisions that confirmed this country’s chosen direction”, stated Ambassador Geer (

Previously, Ambassador Geer handed over a copy of his letters of credence to Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani.
Minister Osmani stated that Ambassador Geer arrives at an exceptionally important moment for the country’s EU path, highlighting that his experience and support will be of great value.
Following his meeting with President Pendarovski, the Ambassador visited the Sobranie to meet with Speaker Talat Xhaferi. The Ambassador underlined the importance of a cross-party consensus on EU reforms. The interlocutors also discussed a number of reform priorities.
