The internationally acclaimed film composer, producer and pianist Duke Bojadjiev will hold an open air concert on 8 May (Skopje’s City Park) in what will be the central public event in the marking of this year’s Europe Day. Bojadjiev’s ensemble (two narrators and 25 piece-orchestra) will perform a fusion of orchestral and film music, traditional Balkans’ vibes and the eternal love poetry of Rumi in Macedonian and Albanian. This unique cinematic experience (to be broadcast live on the national TV) will also represent a prayer for peace in Ukraine.

In the European Year of Youth, the Europe Day programme gives the most prominent place to young people – the true bearers of European values.

The programme started on 5 May with a month-long exhibition at the East Gate Mall in Skopje entitled ‘Future of Europe’. It consists of artistic portraits of successful young people in the country, selected on the basis of their achievements in different areas https://www.facebook.com/EuropeHouseSkopje/photos/pcb.5324130927648861/5324124814316139/. 

The regional ‘Youth Conference #ThinkForward: YOUth ACTion NOW!’ kicked in on 6 May at Europe House Skopje (the launching event was livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/Delegation-of-the-European-Union-Skopje-199770503767478 and will be broadcast on the national TV on 9 May at 17:45).  

Designed as a dynamic show, the conference includes live links with Europe Houses in Kriva Palanka and Strumica, as well as with young people in Pristina, Podgorica, Sarajevo, Tirana (2022 European Youth Capital) and Novi Sad (2022 European Capital of Culture), as well as participation of Ambassador David Geer and the Young European Ambassadors. The working part of the conference, supported by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), will take place on 9-10 May at the Youth Cultural Centre: 30 young people from the Western Balkans will discuss mental health, regional cooperation and reconciliation, and the European Green Deal.  They will present their conclusions to the Prime Minister and line ministers from the government of North Macedonia at the symbolic ‘government takeover’ on 12 May (to be livestreamed by the government at 13:30).

The 2022 Europe Day programme will be wrapped-up on 5 June, World Environment Day, with the EU Delegation presenting the Green Municipality Award, introduced as part of the campaign promoting the EU Green Deal.
