Europe House Skopje is turning two - and celebrating with a month of activities!
On 4 November 2019, European Parliament President David Sassoli inaugurated Europe House as a place for young people to get together, network and play an active role in shaping their future.
On the occasion of Europe House’s second birthday, the EU Delegation is giving young people from North Macedonia an even greater floor to have their voice heard – by launching a series of talks in the context of the ongoing Conference on the Future of Europe.
At the kick-off event (to be livestreamed on https://www.facebook.com/EuropeHouseSkopje/, Young European Ambassadors, activists and the Secretary-General of the Young European Federalists will familiarise young participants with the ways in which they can join the debate and, together with their peers from all over Europe, help in finding right responses to the common challenges. The Conference on the Future of Europe is a consultation process that the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission launched last spring so that European citizens from all walks of life can present their views on Europe’s challenges and priorities. The citizens of the EU and Western Balkans share a common history, culture, and a common future - so it is natural for the citizens of the region to be part of the debate.
But marking of the anniversary will not be confined only to 4 November – it will stretch throughout the month.
The Green Deal, a top priority for the EU, will be the topic of a networking event involving Ambassador David Geer and local environmental activists. It will take place on 20 November at the first community garden in Skopje, developed by the CSO Green Ark and nurtured together with local residents.
The International Day against Violence and Bullying at School Including Cyberbullying will be marked with a thematic play at Skopje’s Theatre for Children and Youth. The plays on the Theatre’s November repertoire will be performed as part of Europe House’s birthday programme.
Ambassador Geer will meet cultural operators in the Youth Cultural Centre on 17 November, at an event that will also feature an exhibition of works by graphics design students and a performance of Filip Bukrshliev, who was pronounced the best young jazz musician at the latest edition of Skopje Jazz Festival.
And there will be more music. DJs will entertain visitors (amid respect for Covid-19 protocols) at Bistro Komedija, MAKKA, Izlet and Kotur bars in the evenings of 4-6 November. Also, an online gig of high-school rock bands will take place on 16 November.
