Closing of EU-funded SISLAM Project

On 24 February 2026, the EU Ambassador Erika Hasznos participated in the final project steering committee and closing event of the Strengthening Integrated Sustainable Landscape Management (SISLAM) project, for which the EU partnered with the UNDP. With EU funding of EUR 4.9 million / PGK 5,733,980 million, the project worked the past 4 years on harmonising land use, economic development, and conservation in a way that empowers communities, strengthens value chains, and safeguards Enga’s breathtaking biodiversity.

Central to the approach and achievements of the project were women entrepreneurs that ran farms; vegetable and tree nurseries; pig and poultry farms, and fish ponds, just to name a few. During the final event, some farmers and entrepreneurs travelled to Port Moresby to display their products. The establishment of two Community Conservation sites is still underway, and the EU trusts the Enga Provincial Administration will conclude this process.
