Inclusion as an Instrument of Personal Experience

28.08.2020

A series of mostly online events on the right to independence, entitled “Inclusion as an Instrument of Personal Experience,” was organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the Russian Federation and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in partnership with the Life Route Charitable Foundation in April-June 2020.

People with disabilities cannot fully enjoy their right to an independent and dignified life as they are often not perceived as subjects by the society. The series of events was devoted to the themes of adulthood and the independence of people with disabilities and addressed three thematic aspects such as “Independent living”, “The right to love: sex and disability”, and “Accessible spaces and inclusion” in lectures, presentations and workshops.

Mats-Ola Olsson (Sweden), Sabrina Ferraina (the Netherlands), Anna Halgren (Sweden), Kapka Panayotova (Hungary), Petr Eisner (Czech Republic) and Kalliopi Gkika (Greece) held lectures and workshops. They discussed with the Russian colleagues Alyona Lyovina, Svetlana Andreeva, Ivan Bakaidov, Anna Bitova, Mikhail Shu best practices in the areas of assisted living, sex education, assistance and the organization of accessible spaces, and tried to find workable solutions that would make life freer and happier for everyone.
