Senior EU Officials discussed key Asia-Pacific policy issues with counterparts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

On 9 November, during his visit to Moscow, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Gunnar Wiegand met with Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov to discuss the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, including Afghanistan and Myanmar and the upcoming Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit to be held on 25-26 November 2021.

MD Wiegand and EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan Tomas Niklasson held a separate meeting with Special Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov to discuss the situation in and around Afghanistan. MD Wiegand held consultations on the Asia-Pacific issues with Director of the Department of Asia and Pacific Cooperation Alexey Ovchinnikov and exchanged views with the Ambassador-at-Large Oleg Burmistrov.
