Webinar “Legal and judicial ethics in the practice of the ECHR. Key issues and principles"

22.04.2021

The European Convention for Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms guarantees a wide range of rights - the right to a fair trial, the right to privacy, freedom of speech and peaceful assembly, and others. Potential violations of these rights may happen in relation to members of the legal profession, including in the light of ethical requirements imposed primarily on lawyers and judges. Enforcement of these rights may also occasionally conflict with the law on advocate secrecy.

During webinar which will be held on May 13, 2021 from 12:00 to 13:30 (Moscow time), practicing lawyer Alexandra Suchkova will consider the following issues:

• main categories of cases in which the ECHR considers issues of legal and judicial ethics;

• key approaches and criteria developed in the practice of the ECHR in such cases;

• issues related to advocate secrecy and the basic principles developed in relevant cases in the practice of the ECHR.
