EU Ambassador Hosts Ramadan Iftar Reception in Somalia to Promote Peace and Dialogue
Mogadishu, 23 February 2026 - The European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, hosted a Ramadan Iftar Reception at the EU Diplomatic Compound in Mogadishu, bringing together over 100 senior Somali government officials, diplomats, civil society representatives, religious leaders and members of the business community. The event underscored the European Union’s continued commitment to partnership, dialogue and peacebuilding in Somalia.
The Guest of Honour, Salah Ahmed Jama, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, was welcomed at the compound and signed the official guest book, symbolising the close cooperation between the EU and Somali authorities.
In her welcoming remarks, Ambassador Di Mauro reaffirmed the European Union’s long-standing engagement in Somalia.

“This Ramadan comes at a pivotal moment for Somalia. The country is engaged in an important dialogue aimed at reconciling differences and fostering national unity. Such efforts are essential to building a stable and prosperous future,” said Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro.
First Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama expressed appreciation for the EU’s sustained support, particularly as Somalia advances dialogue and unity among Somali stakeholders.
“The Government of Somalia stands on the side of dialogue, consultation and unity. In recent days, we have engaged in discussions with opposition groups, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to building consensus for a future that is brighter than the past- a future of progress that our people deserve and demand,” the First Deputy Prime Minister stated.
