EU in Somalia teams up for a cleaner Mogadishu on World Clean-Up Day

Mogadishu, 20 September 2025- The EU Delegation to Somalia marked World Clean-Up Day with its annual #EUBeachCleanUp in Mogadishu, led by Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro and the EU family in Somalia.

Ambassador Di Mauro said:

“Like every year, we make our small contribution by cleaning our nearby beach of plastic waste. Plastic pollution is a serious threat to our health and biodiversity.”

She welcomed Somalia’s ban on plastic bags, noting that “implementation is key” and reaffirmed the EU’s broader support to sustainable development through the €400 million Team Europe Green Deal initiative.

The clean-up raised awareness on marine pollution and highlighted the importance of collective action for a cleaner, healthier future.
