EU 대표부는 2025년 3월 7일 서울에서 "더욱 회복력 있고 안전한 민주주의를 향하여: 안보와 방위의 여성"이라는 주제로 국제 여성의 날(IWD)을 기념하는 특별 행사를 주최했습니다. 이 행사는 한국과 유럽의 다양한 배경(학계, 군 장교, 전문가)을 가진 여성들을 모아 더욱 안정적이고 회복력 있는 민주 사회를 형성하는 데 있어 여성의 역할을 강조했습니다.
이번 행사는 2024년 11월에 체결된 EU-한국 안보 및 방위 파트너십을 기반으로 하며, 이러한 분야에서 여성의 리더십을 강화하는 방법을 논의할 수 있는 플랫폼을 제공했습니다. 유엔 안전보장이사회 결의안 1325에 따라, 이 성공적인 행사는 EU가 공통 안보 및 방위 정책(CSDP)에 성평등을 통합하려는 노력을 강조했으며, 2025년은 이 결의안이 채택된 지 25주년이 됩니다. 또한 이번 행사는 안보 방위 분야에서 여성의 참여를 증진하는 데 있어 과제, 성공 사례, 기회를 탐구함으로써 EU 프로젝트인 '아시아와 인도-태평양 지역에서의 안보 협력 강화'(ESIWA+)와 시너지를 구축했습니다.
150명 이상의 참가자(EU 회원국 및 제3국 대사관, 한국 정부, 학생, 학계)가 이 매우 시의적절한 행사에 모였으며, 한국 언론에서도 광범위하게 보도했습니다.
