EU Ambassador to Korea Michael Reiterer Receives Seoul's Honorary Citizenship
Michael Reiterer, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Korea has become an honorary citizen of Seoul. Ambassador Reiterer will retire on 31 August after serving his 3.5-year term in the Republic of Korea.
Acting Seoul Mayor Seo Jeong-hyeop held a meeting with the Ambassador at the Seoul City Hall on 19 August and awarded the honourary citizenship. The EU Ambassador shared his thoughts on working experiences with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, including his participation in the opening of Seoullo Bridge and in the 2020 New Year's Eve Bell Ringing event.
The Ambassador was nominated in recognition of his endeavourss to expand the scope of friendly exchanges between Seoul and EU cities by introducing Seoul's developments and successful policies to the EU. He will wrap up his 40-year career as a diplomat in South Korea.
Acting Mayor Seo asked Ambassador Reiterer to continue to pay unwavering attention to Seoul even after returning from his post.
Seoul's honourary citizens are awarded to foreigners who have contributed to the development of the city and to foreign heads of states and diplomatic envoys visiting the city to foster friendship and eoncourage cooperation. Since 1958, a total of 857 honourary citizens from 99 countries have been selected.
