EU and Korea to Convene High-Level Forum on Green Transition and Climate Action
SEOUL, 2 October 2026 – The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea and the Center for Global Climate and Marine Governance of Korea University will bring EU and Korean officials and experts together on 20 October 2026 to discuss decarbonisation, clean energy and industrial competitiveness at the EU-Korea High-level Green Transition and Climate Forum.
Held as part of EU Green Diplomacy Week 2026 and ahead of The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP31, the forum will examine how the EU and Korea can advance the transition away from fossil fuels while safeguarding industrial competitiveness. The event will address key priorities identified in the first Global Stocktake – a review of global progress on climate action – and will discuss the COP31 global electrification initiative. These priorities support efforts to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in line with the Paris Agreement, and reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
The forum will convene senior officials and experts from the EU and the Republic of Korea, including H.E. Ugo Astuto, EU Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, and Caroline Edery, Deputy Director for International Affairs and Climate Finance at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA). Representatives from the Korean government, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE), as well as academia, industry and civil society, will also participate.
Sessions will examine green transition opportunities in the EU and Korea, energy security, industrial competitiveness, and the implementation of decarbonisation and electrification policies. The programme will conclude with a Green Transition Roundtable on the clean energy transition, electrification and energy efficiency, followed by an audience Q&A.
Through these exchanges, the EU-Korea High-level Forum aims to promote bilateral dialogue and explore how emissions reductions in key industrial sectors can contribute to the EU’s and Korea’s nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
