EU Delegation to Korea and Embassy of Ukraine co-host a Piano Recital event marking the Independence Day of Ukraine and EU Solidarity
Seoul, 26 August 2026 — The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea and the Embassy of Ukraine in Korea co-hosted a special piano recital at the Goethe-Institut on Monday, 24 August 2026, to mark the Independence Day of Ukraine and reaffirm EU solidarity with Ukraine.
Opening the event, Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires Andrii Vieshkin expressed gratitude to the public for the support and assistance to Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian war of aggression.
In his closing remarks, EU Chargé d’Affaires Roland Honekamp underscored the European Union's unwavering solidarity to Ukraine:
"Our presence here today – on the Independence Day of Ukraine – carries a simple message: The EU stands with the people of Ukraine. As President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted during her visit to Kyiv in July, Russia's momentum is weak. Ukraine, on the other hand, continues to resist. Every strike only strengthens Ukraine’s determination to be free. And it strengthens the EU’s resolve to support Ukraine any way we can, for as long as needed."
The EU Chargé d’Affaires also highlighted that "In recent months, the EU has advanced the accession process, opening negotiations this summer on key clusters including Fundamental Values and External Relations". He added, "This is recognition of the remarkable progress Ukraine has made and a strong signal that its future belongs in our European family."
The evening featured a performance by renowned Ukrainian pianist Dr. Taras Filenko, who paired his musical repertoire with historical commentary. Dr. Filenko emphasized that the current war is not merely a territorial dispute, but a struggle to preserve Ukraine's national and cultural identity.
