Meet the Winners of the Young Talent Architecture Award 2020!

Mariya Gabriel, EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth announces the Winners of the Young Talent architecture Award (YTAA) 2020 and of the Asia Edition of YTAA 2020. The announcement is part of the YTAA Day celebrated online with the winners, the jury members and the network involved in its organization and development, on the World Architecture Day and the World Habitat Day,

The 4 Winners of YTAA 2020 are:

“OASI” by Álvaro Alcázar Del Águila, Eduard Llargués, Roser Garcia, Sergio Sangalli from the Vallès School of Architecture of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - Barcelona Tech in Sant Cugat del Vallés, Barcelona (ES).

“Off the Grid” by Willem Hubrechts from the Faculty of Engineering Science of the University of Leuven (BE).

“Stage for the City” by Monika Marinova from The Sir John Cass School of Art Architecture & Design of the London Metropolitan University in London (UK).

“Three places to inhabit the mountain range in the Maule region by” Pía Montero, Maria Jesús Molina, Antonia Ossa from the School of Architecture of the University of Talca in Talca (Chile).

 

The 3 Winners of the Asia Edition of YTAA 2020 are:

“Yulgok street” by JiSoo Kim from the Hanyang University School of Architecture in Seoul (Korea).

“The Wall” by Peiquan Ma, Yuan Liu, Jing Cheng, Yuxuan Liang and Zi'ang Li from the School of Architecture at Tianjin University in Tianjin (China).

“Mending the gap: Landscape conservation for the island of Aliabet” by Shreeni Benjamin from the Faculty of Architecture of the CEPT University in Ahmedabad (India).

Anna Ramos, director of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, Georg Pendl, president of the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) and Ilaria Valente, president of the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE), congratulated the winners, finalists, shortlisted and participants and highlighted the essential role of education in a continuously changing world.

During the Young Talent Architecture Award Day, the winners and the jury members will talk about the future of their career and of the architecture profession and the importance of our environment and heritage. To conclude the event, Anna Ramos, Mr. Georg Pendl, Ilaria Valente and Magda Mostafa (Co-Director, UNESCO-UIA Architectural Education Commission & Co-Reporter) will debate on architecture education and the first steps into the profession after studying architecture, landscape architecture and urban design.

YTAA is an inherent part of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award (EU Mies Award), organised by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe with the support of the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, in partnership with the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) and the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE-CAE); World Architects as a founding partner; the European Cultural Centre as a partner in Venice; sponsored by Jung, Jansen and Regent; and with the support of USM. These partners will allow the YTAA Winners to become part of a network with the architects and critics involved in the EU Mies Award. To support their professional development, Europe’s youngest architecture talents receive:

→ a diploma
→ 5.000€ each
→ a profile in World-Architects.com
→ visibility through the YTAA 2020 exhibition in Venice and universities worldwide
→ participation in events such as the Awards ceremony and the Future Architecture Platform → USM furniture to design their work space

Exhibition

The YTAA 2020 exhibition will open on May 22, 2021 at the European Cultural Centre - Palazzo Mora in Venice, as a Collateral event of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.

The Awards Ceremony will take place shortly after together with a debate called ‘Learning together’ in the framework of the Biennale Architettura 2021 “How will we live together?” curated by Hashim Sarkis.

As in the previous editions, the YTAA results will be presented in a traveling exhibition that will start its journey in universities worldwide in November 2020 and the exhibition in Venice during the Biennale Architettura 2021.

 

Publication

All nominated designs have been published online and will be published in a catalogue; they will also become part of the EU Mies Award Archive as a recognition of their authors and the schools they come from.

2021

February → Future Architecture Platform.
May 22 → Main Exhibition Opening in Venice, as a Collateral event of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, Biennale Architettura 2021.
