Ambassador Robert van den Dool, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Sudan writes on the occasion of the International Women Day 2021:

"We know that when we invest in women and girls, in Sudan we are not only helping them, we are helping the entire country. A future in which all Sudanese women and girls are allowed to rise and achieve their full potential will be brighter, more peaceful and more prosperous future for all Sudanese"

Marking the International Women's Day 2021 on 8th March the EU is paying tribute to Sudanese women in each and every part of the country in particular women in the far remote areas of the country and in IDP and refugee camps,

The EU appreciates very much the crucial role of women during the difficult transition period and for being at the front line during the COVID 19 crisis.

Gender equality is core value of the European Union. The EU's Action Plan on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment 2021–2025 has set out concrete actions for accelerating progress for empowering women and girls.

The EU has notably supported gender equality and women rights along the years in Sudan with special emphasis on programmes aiming at ending poverty, support access to basic services such as health and education, protection of the environment, climate change, and enhance economic empowerment for women.

During the past two years and following the glorious December 2018 revolution, the EU and the Sudanese Government have worked closely together to enhance and promote participation, resilience , and inclusion  of women.

-  The EU is supporting the Sudanese CSOs to play an active role in the promotion of gender equality, combating gender-based violence, promote advocacy for the human rights of women,

- The EU is supporting the participation of Sudanese women in the peace process and the implementation of the national action plan for the implementation of the UN Resolution of 1325

- The EU is promoting the human rights of women through it political dialogue with the government of Sudan and other stakeholders

We appeal to all stakeholders to turn the current moment in to actions, to bridge gender gaps and structural barriers in order to achieve full empowerment of every girl and women in Sudan
