Clarification by the EU in Türkiye regarding news reports concerning the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS)

The ETIAS is scheduled to become operational by the end of 2022 and will apply to all visa-exempt third-country nationals.

 

No changes in the rules regarding Turkish citizens’ entry into the EU for a short stay are foreseen in 2020. Turkish citizens need a visa to travel to the Schengen area for short stays.

 

Persons travelling with a diplomatic passport, service/official passport or a special passport will be exempted from the obligation of requesting an ETIAS travel authorisation.
