Enlargement of the European Turkish Business Centres Network
Having previously benefited from various European Union funds, TOBB has established ABİGEMs in 15 different provinces across Türkiye under the Project for the Enlargement of the European Turkish Business Centres Network. The most recent branches of the successfully operated ABİGEMs were launched in Sivas, Antakya, Batman and Van.
These centres do not only welcome business owners but also support entrepreneurs looking to start new ventures. As a result of interviews conducted to identify training and consultancy needs in these locations, more than 500 SMEs and entrepreneurs have benefited from various services, including market expansion at national and international levels, branding, entrepreneurship, institutionalisation, access to funding, and project preparation for new grant facilities. Over 100 entrepreneurs have successfully set up their own businesses after receiving information and consultancy services, while approximately 150 businesses have been supported in developing business and investment plans.
Throughout the project, 7,360 individuals have been trained on more than 50 subjects, including approximately 2,000 women entrepreneurs.
One of the most significant outcomes of the project has been the development of the Competitiveness Model. In addition to the Support Model for SMEs and Entrepreneurs, the Sustainability Model has been designed to enable future centres to operate more efficiently.
After the project’s completion, ABİGEMs will continue to function as joint stock companies, supporting new entrepreneurs as well as small and medium-sized enterprises in the areas they need assistance.
Approximately three million small and medium-sized enterprises employ more than three-fourths of Türkiye’s total labour force. SMEs, most of which are family-owned businesses, play a crucial role in the Turkish economy. Therefore, enhancing their competitiveness in national and international markets, unlocking their potential, and providing them with access to innovation and training are of utmost importance.
