EU’s Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act enter into force
As of 25 August 2023, the European Commission enforces the Digital Services Act (DSA) for 19 Very Large Online Platforms and 2 Very Large Online Search Engines. All other online platforms will be supervised by national Digital Services Coordinators from 24 February 2024 onwards.
As of 6 September 2023, the European Commission enforces the Digital Markets Act (DMA) for 22 Core Platform Services belonging to six gatekeeper companies.
Implemented in cooperation with EU Member States and like-minded partners, the DSA and DMA have two main goals: to create a safer digital space in which the fundamental rights of all users of digital services are protected; and to establish a level playing field to foster innovation, growth, and competitiveness.
