EU Highlights Strong Partnership with Türkiye on Sustainable Urban Mobility

Trabzon joins the club of cities with Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans


The Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable mobility and its long-standing cooperation with Türkiye at during the International Sustainable Mobility Conference held in Trabzon. Head of Financial Cooperation at the EU Delegation, Ms. Maria Luisa WYGANOWSKI joined the conference together with Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Abdulkadir URALOGLU. She has welcomed Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, for adopting a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) with the EU support. Trabzon is the eight city who has developed SUMP in Turkiye.

The EU has provided €1 billion in grants to Türkiye’s transport sector under IPA I and II programmes covering the period bewteen 2007 and 2020. This support has contributed to the modernisation of more than 1,000 km of railway, improved road safety, and strengthened transport institutions in line with EU standards. Nearly €60 million has been dedicated specifically to sustainable urban mobility projects in cities.

Trabzon SUMP provides structured list of measures for sustainable urban mobility in Trabzon for making urban mobility  affordable and accessible for all.
