EU Info Centres Meet in Ankara to Discuss EU Turkey Relations
The 2020 launch event of the "Support to the EU Information Centres Network in Turkey" Project will be held in Ankara with the participation of Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey and M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges in Turkey (TOBB).
The highlight of the day will be a panel discussion moderated by Nilgün Arısan Eralp, where panellists Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Aslı Aydıntaşbaş, Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations and Assoc. Prof. Özgehan Şenyuva, Chair of the European Studies Program at Middle East Technical University will discuss the future of EU Turkey relations. The discussion aims at framing a new narrative for EU Turkey relations in a forward-looking manner.
Apart from creating a forum to discuss EU-Turkey relations amid global challenges the event also offers the opportunity for future cooperation through networking for participants.
The 23-year-old EU Information Centres initiative is part of the European Union’s public diplomacy strategy in Turkey to promote a better understanding of the EU in Turkey.

The EU Information Centres Network in a Nutshell
- The Network aims at keeping EU-Turkey relations on the local agenda and informs key local Turkish partners and the population at large about developments in the area.
- The Network serves the information needs of local people about EU policies, Turkey's EU accession process, EU funded projects and EU's engagement in Turkey.
- In brief, the Network helps the European Union to connect with Turkish citizens across the country.
- There are 20 Centres across Turkey located in Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Edirne, Erzurum, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, Istanbul, Izmir, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Konya, Mersin, Samsun, Şanlıurfa, Sivas, Trabzon and Van.
- The project is fully funded by the European Union and is implemented in partnership with TOBB, Chambers of Commerce/Industry, the Economic Development Foundation and the Aegean Business Association.
- With many visibility events, the Network aims to bring the EU closer to the Turkish people highlighting cultural, economic, science and climate related topics which are of common interest for both Turkey and the European Union.
