The Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye organises the annual EU Human Rights Short Film Competition on the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Via the medium of film, we invite you to express your views on aspects of inalienable and non-transferable human rights as laid out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The UDHR consists of a preamble and 30 articles that set out a broad range of fundamental human rights and freedoms to which all of us, everywhere around the world, are entitled.  It sets out the rights without distinction of nationality, place of residence, gender, national or ethnic origin, religion, language, or any other status.  It highlights the “recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”

This year on 10 December we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  This year’s Human Rights Day’s call to action is #StandUp4HumanRights.

Amateur and professional filmmakers may submit their entries online until 1 November 2023, 18:00.  These short films, which can be based on any genre or technique, must have a duration of between 3 to 10 minutes.  Join us in launching a discussion on the issue of human rights.  The Delegation continues to encourage short-film makers to think about gender equality and climate crisis, too.

You can download the terms and conditions for taking part in the competition and the entry form using the link provided at the end of this text.

Films applying for the competition will be subject to a pre-selection.  10 finalist short films for the Human Rights Awards and 5 finalist short films each for the Gender Equality and Climate Crisis Special Awards will be evaluated by the final jury.

You may follow the entire process and developments as they unfold through our website and our social media accounts by using the hashtag #EUHumanRightsShortFilmCompetition .
