Record participation from Türkiye European Mobility Week begins!
The European Mobility Week, during which the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye calls on everyone to explore towns by way of urban transport and save energy in these cities in 2023, has started. 2,663 towns and cities from 41 countries take part in the European Mobility Week with their activities, and Turkey has broken the record again by participating with 630 cities and towns.
The theme of this year's European Mobility Week, which is held across Europe from 16 to 22 September every year, is "Discover your city" and the slogan is "Save your future energy".
During this most active week of the year, various events, concerts and symposiums will be held all over Türkiye to promote active mobility and sustainable transport routes, primarily the "Car-Free Day" event. The events will be open to the public. For more details, you can follow the website www.mobilityweek.eu and the official Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Ambassador to attend events in İzmir, Ankara and İstanbul
The Head of the EU Delegation to Türkiye, Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut will attend the European Mobility Week events in İzmir, Ankara and İstanbul. The İzmir event will start on 18 September at 11.45 at Bostanlı Ferry Pier. The ferryboat will sail to Üçkuyular, and at 14.00, a tram will depart to the Lausanne Square, where the European Mobility Week events will take place. Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut will also attend the events at the square.
Ambassador Meyer-Landrut's second stop during the European Mobility Week will be Ankara on 21 September. A large group of cyclists will ride on the bicycles of the Smart Ankara Electric Bicycle Sharing System. Ambassador Meyer-Landrut will then attend the "Mobility in Ankara Workshop" at Point Hotel.
On 22 September, the last day of the European Mobility Week, Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut will be in İstanbul and will attend the "Car-Free Day" event organised by the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB). A bicycle convoy will be formed and will set out at 15.00 from the Eyüp Pier. The final destination of the convoy will be the Sultan Suleiman Fountain. From there, the group will walk to the TBB Strategy and Vision Office, and the European Mobility Week activities will come to an end.
Promotion of alternative transport methods
This large-scale awareness campaign, which has been organised since 2002, aims to encourage decision-makers to promote sustainable transport and urban active mobility and to orient citizens towards sustainable transport. European Mobility Week emphasises the importance of movement, reduced energy consumption, and clean and smart modes of transport for a sustainable world and a high quality of life.
This inspiring week is organised in Türkiye under the national coordination of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye and with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye. Throughout the week in many cities, various events will draw attention to energy conservation, energy efficiency and clean, green and lower-cost alternative transport methods with zero carbon emissions. This year's events will focus on improving municipal transport plans and public transport systems, increasing the number of bicycle and pedestrian routes, and raising awareness on the preference of alternative modes of transport over individual car use.
During European Mobility Week, safe and sustainable transport activities will be shared with the hashtags #DiscoverYourCity, #SaveYourFutureEnergy, #EuropeanMobilityWeek2023, #MobilityWeek and #SaveEnergy.
