Türkiye and Interreg: two decades of shared progress

For nearly 20 years, Türkiye has been strengthening ties with its neighbours through Interreg, turning cooperation into concrete progress.

Across South-East Europe, the Black Sea, and now the Mediterranean, joint projects are helping regions become greener, more inclusive, more prosperous.

With more than €370 million in EU funding channeled into the three current Interreg programmes involving Türkiye, the country stands at the centre of a dynamic partnership. The impact is visible and far-reaching: advanced technologies are safeguarding the Black Sea seafloor, new skills are opening doors to green jobs in the Mediterranean, border management is becoming more efficient and humane, while sustainable practices are supporting fisheries, tourism, and the maritime economy.

“Interreg is much more than funding: it is about people working together across borders to find common solutions. For Türkiye, this partnership has proven to be a driver of innovation, sustainability, and solidarity with its neighbours,” says Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye Jurgis Vilčinskas.

From seafloors to cities, from innovation hubs to local communities, Interreg continues to demonstrate that the value of cooperation goes beyond its development impact: it is about building a lasting, transformative partnership with the European Union, for Türkiye and the wider region.
