We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations or Offices, which have a similar function to that of an embassy.

The European Economic and Trade Office represents the European Union in Taiwan. The various responsibilities of the EETO include fostering good relations between the EU and Taiwan.

We offer

We offer a post of Press and Information Assistant in the Political, Press and Information Section. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the EETO. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Press and Information Officer – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the EETO.

Under the supervision of the Head of Section, and under the overall management of the Head of Office, the successful candidate will serve as technical and support staff to work on public diplomacy and outreach activities, including through active use of social media as well as organising local events that are relevant to the EU’s overall objectives and promote the EU’s image in Taiwan. The job-holder will monitor local media and produce relevant reports, and will assist in the management of the section’s budget, including by assisting in the preparation of tenders and contracts and liaising with contractors. The job-holder will contribute to all the section’s activities, including research and political analysis, preparing meetings, and assisting to draft speeches and political reports as needed.

The EETO is a small, centrally located office. This is a Local Agent Group 2 position in an international environment. Basic starting salary would be TWD 73,222. Benefits such as additional pension scheme membership and medical insurance may be offered to employees and their families under certain conditions.

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

1.     Medically fit to perform the required duties;

2.     Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;

3.     Excellent command of written and spoken English and Mandarin Chinese;

4.     Capacity to work and communicate under time constraints in a multilingual and –cultural environment;

5.     Relevant work experience

The following will be considered an asset:

1.     Previous work experience in a diplomatic mission or office, or in an international organisation

2.     Other EU language skills

3.     University degree in international relations, public policy, political sciences or another related field

4.     Very good drafting and reporting skills. Rapid grasp of problems and capacity to identify issues and solutions;

5.     Strong sense of responsibility. Ability to work in a proactive and autonomous way, as well as part of a team

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered the most suitable for the post based on a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase, which may include an interview if necessary, as well as a written test. During this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the EETO will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
