On the eve of International Women’s Day 2026, the European Union Delegation to Tajikistan — together with like-minded Embassies and international organisations in the country — once again launched the the “Ambassador for a Day” initiative. The programme aims to inspire young women to consider careers in diplomacy, leadership, and public service.

Female students aged 18 to 23 from across Tajikistan were invited to apply by submitting a short video on the theme “The role of women and girls in global diplomacy in the areas of Technologies and AI.” The initiative continues to encourage visibility and equal participation of women and girls in decision-making processes, especially in emerging fields.

This year, the EU Delegation proudly welcomed Ms. Mavzuna Anorova as the 2026 EU “Ambassador for a Day.” Mavzuna spent the day at the Delegation discovering how the EU works with Tajikistan to advance shared priorities in education, equality, sustainable development, and youth empowerment. She met with staff and Ambassador Mr. Radosław Darski, taking part in discussions about innovation, gender equality, and the values that drive EU diplomacy.

Her enthusiasm and thoughtful engagement reflected the purpose of the initiative — to give young women first-hand insight into diplomacy and the confidence to shape a more inclusive and equitable future.

As Ambassador Darski underlined, “Initiatives like 'Ambassador for a Day' help spark interest among young women in international careers, while reminding us of the importance of nurturing the next generation of leaders.”

Through joint efforts, the European Union in Tajikistan continues to build stronger connections with youth and advance shared commitments to gender equality, leadership, and global cooperation.
