The European Union supports humanitarian mine action in Thailand
In Thailand, the European Union is partnering with the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) to strengthen the capacity of the Thailand Mine Action Centre (TMAC) in survey and land release activities.
The European Union is committed to supporting practical, needs-based action that protects civilians and strengthens resilience in communities affected by conflict. In Thailand, our cooperation with TMAC and GICHD will help reinforce national mine action capacity, improve safety and support longer-term stabilisation efforts. In addition to capacity building and sharing of expertise, the European Union will assist TMAC with the provision of selected equipment for humanitarian demining. By working with trusted partners and national authorities, we aim to contribute to safer conditions for affected communities and to sustainable peace and security in the border areas.
In Cambodia, assistance will focus on land survey and release through innovative techniques, with the aim to enable the safe return of displaced persons and restore access to livelihoods.
The EU’s wider support programme will also include support for confidence-building processes between Cambodia and Thailand through dialogue initiatives involving relevant stakeholders from both sides.
This regional engagement reflects the EU’s readiness to work with both countries in a balanced, respectful and impartial manner. The European Union stands ready to act as a neutral partner, promoting practical steps to reduce risks for civilians, helping to rebuild trust between the parties and stability in the affected border areas.
