Overview:

The EU awarded this direct grant to provide support to the migrant population, who did not have access to the social protection measures, which the Government had implemented for citizens in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The project is a part of the EU’s Team Europe funding initiative, developed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences.

The objectives of the project are:

• To provide immediate humanitarian assistance via the provision of food and non-food items to reduce current hardships and the compounding population movement challenges experienced by 500 families (approx. 2500 persons) as a result of COVID 19.  Further, to  enhance the overall food security of the most vulnerable migrants via the establishment of  home gardens;
• To provide mental health and psychosocial support to at least 500 persons to reduce the mental health effects (including sexual/gender based violence) arising from the national quarantine and the resultant socio-economic impacts within communities and families;
• To provide cash voucher support for basic health screenings for at least 150 children who have chronic and emergency health care needs and health issues;
• To develop a communication mechanism through the application of a Risk Communication Community Engagement (RCCE) methodology to provide reliable information to migrants about general health and security risk and protection measures, and to nurture healthy behaviours, knowledge and attitudes among migrant and host communities via contextualized risk communication and protection messages;
• To enhance the strategic and operational capacity of the Red Cross to deliver services to the most vulnerable migrant families in Trinidad and Tobago;
• To develop and coordinate a collaboration framework for Migration with TTRCS and other organisations involved in assisting migrants.

The action will ensure a sustainable solution to the affected population including:

• Humanitarian Assistance
• Health Programming
• Promotion of social inclusion and protection of migrants
• Advocacy, communication and public awareness/build partnerships for migrants
• Institutional collaboration/partnerships.
