Tobagonian Cassia Sobers is TT’s 2025 Erasmus+ Scholar

Cassia Sobers, a native of Mason Hall, Tobago, has been awarded the prestigious Erasmus+ Joint Master’s Degree scholarship for 2025. This highly competitive program, funded by the European Union, selects exceptional graduates worldwide to pursue advanced studies at leading European institutions. Cassia will embark on a fully funded two-year master’s degree in Education in Museums and Heritage, starting this September at the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom.
The Erasmus+ program will take Cassia across four countries as part of her studies, including Scotland, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Mexico. This unique opportunity offers exposure to diverse academic environments and cultural experiences, enriching her expertise in museum education and heritage preservation.
Congratulating Cassia on her outstanding achievement, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Trinidad and Tobago, Peter Cavendish, stated: “This is an incredible opportunity for Cassia and well deserved! I have always maintained that the people of Trinidad and Tobago are among the most innovative and educated in the region. I have no doubt that Cassia will make an outstanding contribution to the museums and heritage of this country in the years to come.”
Cassia’s journey began with a deep curiosity about the world around her. “From a young age, I was captivated by stories—whether about people, objects, or traditions. I was always asking questions like, ‘Where did that drink originate?’ or ‘What’s the story behind that song?’” she shared. Her passion for understanding culture led her through Scarborough Secondary and Bishop’s High School, then to the University of the West Indies. Furthering her education, she earned a Master’s degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology at KU Leuven in Belgium, a transformative experience that fuelled her love for research and academic discovery.
“I am honoured to join the Erasmus+ community and excited to deepen my knowledge in museum education and research,” Cassia said. “My goal is to return to Tobago and contribute to preserving and celebrating our island’s rich heritage. This scholarship is a vital step toward making that vision a reality.”
The Erasmus+ scholarship is known for fostering international collaboration and academic excellence. Cassia Sobers’ achievement highlights Tobago’s talent on the global stage and promises to bring valuable insights and skills back to her community.
