6th edition of the EU comic book, Tesa and Luuka launched

Gisoro Primary School in the south-western Uganda district of Kisoro, in the picturesque foot of Mt Muhabura, played host to the launch of the 6th edition of the riveting EU comic book, Tesa and Luuka.

The European Union Delegation to Uganda in partnership with Nation Media group Uganda (NMG-U) through the Daily monitor newspaper had the pleasure to launch the 6th edition of the EU comic book, Tesa and Luuka as set in Kisoro. The event that took place in Kisoro District recently, is part of the EU Delegation’s public diplomacy action in Uganda to promote literacy, raise social consciousness among young Ugandans while promoting the rich heritage and culture of the places featured in the comic book.

The Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Uganda, Mr Guillaume Chartrain, together with the Press and Information Mr Emmanuel Davies Gyezaho presided over the launch event along with NMG-U head of marketing Ms Elizabeth Namaganda and brand manager Joshua Jafa Watwaluma at Gisoro Primary School in Kisoro Municipality.

From poem recitals, music, dance and drama, Gisoro Primary School pupils delivered heart-warming performances at the event attended by the Gisoro Primary School administration led by the school head teacher, Mr Paul Ndagije, and the Kisoro Municipal Council education officer, Mr Emmanuel Sabiiti Mugyema.

Addressing the pupils, Mr Chartrain noted that the EU had chosen a focus on Kisoro district to raise attention to the plight of minority groups while amplifying the picturesque beauty of the region. He said the comic promotes Kisoro’s rich cultural and tourist attractions such as the Mountain Gorillas of Mgahinga and Bwindi national parks, the Batwa people and their forest experience and the famous Irish potatoes among other unique attributes.

“During the recent visit of where the European Union ambassadors spent a couple of days touring different developments in Kisoro, we observed that serialising our observations in our comic book, Tesa and Luuka, would go a long way to attract more interest in the area and would promote the region,” he said.

Mr Gyezaho noted that the comic book created in 2017, highlights key areas of EU cooperation with Uganda with a keen focus on the EU Human Rights and Democracy country strategy for Uganda. Mr Chartrain joined the pupils for an engaging reading session, a key highlight of the launch event. The EU comic book Tesa and Luuka is produced by Bayimba Production Ltd and funded by the European Union.
