The conversation assessed documentary photography's shift towards "self-representation" while asking tough questions: How do we amplify home-grown work?

Mr Chartrain recognized the remarkable journey the Uganda Press Photo Award has made from humble beginnings in 2012 to notable reputation in 2025, 14 years of solid professional growth and service.

He noted that the EU Delegation's collaboration with the Uganda Press Photo Award has been directed at supporting visual literacy and to build a new generation of photographers here in Uganda and in the East African region.

"We support the UPPA because the EU is a strong advocate for freedom of expression and information. As Uganda organises a general election in 2026, it is important to be on the look out for disinformation, misinformation and fake news, which is increasingly permeating through society," said Mr Chartrain.
