Marking EU Green Diplomacy Week in Uganda

Campaign promotes green policies & sustainable development.

The EU Delegation to Uganda marks #GreenDiplomacyWeeks in Uganda, our annual international campaign organized to promote green policies and sustainable development,

On October 29, 2025, our #TeamEurope Ambassadors led by EU Ambassador Jan Sadek had the pleasure to visit the EU supported electric bike manufacturer GOGO Electric, together with Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development Hon. Minister Ruth Nankabirwa.

Top highlight? The announcement of $1M [UGX 3.4B] in new  support to Gogo Electrict, through #electrifi, the EU-funded impact investment facility that finances early-stage and small-sized projects focusing on electricity access and generation from sustainable energy sources in emerging markets.

EU Ambassador Jan Sadek noted that the allocation, bringing EU investment to $2.6M [UGX 9B] following $1.6M [UGX 5.5B] in 2024 and sparking local assembly in Uganda of e-motorcycles and batteries, is proof that the first tranche delivered jobs, cleaner air and a roadmap for growth. "These two investments are poised to fund around 27,000 e-motorcycles and 43,000 batteries, creating 250 jobs and cutting 148 kilotons of CO₂ annually," Ambassador Jan Sadek noted.

The EU #GreenDiplomacyWeeks showcases how  climate policy translates into on the ground projects, and Gogo Electric visit demonstrates that example in action.

After the visit, on October 30, 2025, Ambassador Sadek had the honour to host a reception marking the EU Green Diplomacy Week. The event brought together partners committed to #ClimateAction & sustainable development, a true reflection of #TeamEurope’s shared vision for a greener Uganda & a more resilient planet.

Ambassador Jan Sadek noted: Tonight, surrounded by Uganda’s own green splendour, we celebrate not just diplomacy — but a common vision of a greener world. Uganda and the European Union stand together in this mission: to protect what sustains us, to act with foresight, and to believe that progress and nature can, and must, coexist.

He said the Government of Uganda has a very ambitious e-mobility plan and added: And remember that we as customers also have a responsibility to demand environmentally friendly solutions, so next time you need a Boda-Boda, please try and catch an electric one!
